I started Liberty's Snack Shack because I love candy and I love business. (And I love stickers, which is mostly relevant.) My mom Stephanie helps me with the freeze-drying machine because the inside gets really cold and you have to be careful.
Every week we make small fresh batches of freeze-dried candy in our kitchen in greater Denver, Colorado. Freeze-drying takes regular candy and pulls all the water out so it gets crunchy and the flavor gets stronger. It's like science magic. The Skittles puff up like little flavor clouds.
what i do
- Pick which candies to freeze-dry next (this is the most important job)
- Put the bags together and seal them
- Run the booth at the farmers market — I do the talking and the money
- Write thank-you notes to repeat customers
- Decide what we make for the holidays (cocoa bombs are my best invention)
what my mom does
- Drives
- The freeze-drying machine
- The boring computer parts
- Reminds me to do my homework first
I also wrote a workbook for other kids who want to start a business. It's 20 pages and it has a coloring page in the middle.
